Authors’ Workshop for GAPs Edited Volume Coerced Returns: Politics, Infrastructures and Mobilities
9 July 2025 - As public and academic debates on the return and readmission of migrants continue to grow, the need for deeper theoretical, empirical, and methodological research on return migration has become increasingly evident.
Building on data collected through the EU Horizon Europe GAPs project, the forthcoming edited volume Coerced Returns: Politics, Infrastructures and Mobilities examines the conceptual complexities of coerced return. Organized into distinct sections, the book explores the dynamics of return infrastructures, return diplomacy, and migration trajectories. Adopting a decentered approach, its chapters draw on diverse regional case studies, methodologies, and interdisciplinary perspectives.
In preparation for publication, the editors - Dr. Zeynep Şahin-Mencütek (Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies), Dr. Soner Barthoma (Uppsala University), and Dr. Andreas Önver Cetrez (Uppsala University) - hosted a virtual authors’ workshop on 9 July 2025. Contributing authors presented their findings and provided critical feedback on draft chapters to strengthen the collective work.
Showcasing key insights from the GAPs project, the edited volume aims to serve as a valuable resource for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers engaged in the study of return migration.
